Our cooks are preparing to make a delicious homemade beef chili; I am told that John has won awards for his chili! We will have vegetarian chili options available as well. The $7 meal will include our homemade chili, cornbread muffin, drink and homemade dessert by our Sandy Mush bakers. You don’t want to miss out!! Thanks to everyone who is helping create this wonderful meal.
A huge thanks to Mark and Donna Diaz of Cross Creek Farm in Sandy Mush for donating 90+lbs of their beef for our chili meal.
They have a herd of more than thirty Belted Galloways. Galloways are often referred to as “Belties” or “Oreo” cows. Belted Galloways are an old Scottish breed, and they have been recorded as far back as the 16th century. They are rugged, efficient, and able to convert a wide range of forages into delicious beef. Find out for yourself on December 2, meal served 6-8pm. It is a great time to try some Beltie Beef!!
The Diaz’s bought the old Duckett farm in 2002 and bought their first Belties in 2004. They have shown their cows at the Raleigh State Fair and the North American International Livestock Exposition in Kentucky.
They believe in low stress, human handling and refrain from using any sort of antibiotics or growth hormones. They sell their beef at the Mars Hill tailgate market every Saturday from 10-2pm. You may also purchase directly from the farm by contacting them at: 683-2783 or crosscreekbeltie
