Explore and Learn About Invasive Species With Us

Have you ever found yourself wondering about the nature that surrounds you? Have you ever questioned what kind of invasive species might be growing nearby? If so, this hike is for you!

Join the knowledgeable staff from HRI and EcoForesters for a guided hike through the beautiful Sandy Mush Game Lands. We’ll take you to a site that has been actively managed to control several invasive species, including the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid. As we navigate the trail, we’ll discuss various management strategies and help you identify a wide range of invasive species.

What to Expect on the Day

We’ll meet up for the hike at 10:00 a.m., and we anticipate returning to our vehicles by 2:00 p.m. We’ll begin our journey from the parking area of the Sandy Mush Game Lands near Turkey Creek located along Old State Hwy 20 (Marshall Rd) and will cover a distance of 1-2 miles. Be prepared for moderate terrain with a few strenuous slopes – it’s sure to be a rewarding experience!

How to Join

If you’re ready for an exciting day of exploration and learning, contact Caroline Lord at [email protected] to register. Although the hike is free to attend, we do require an RSVP. Please make sure to sign up by Monday, May 20th. If you’re looking for more information about the hike, you can visit our website at savehemlocksnc.org/events.
