The Sandy Mush Community Center Book Club invites you to join us for our September discussion featuring “18 Tiny Deaths: The Untold Story of Frances Glessner Lee and the Invention of Modern Forensics” by Bruce Goldfarb.
This fascinating biography introduces readers to Frances Glessner Lee, a wealthy Chicago heiress who revolutionized the field of forensic science in the mid-20th century. Using her extraordinary craftswomanship, Lee created meticulously detailed dioramas of crime scenes known as the “Nutshell Studies of Unexplained Death.” These miniature crime scenes became powerful teaching tools that transformed how detectives investigated suspicious deaths.
