Sandy Mush Food Pantry Lottery System

Effective November 2019
What is the Lottery (Random Number) System?
We will start using a lottery system to decide the order that you and others will shop. This will prevent you from having to come early to get a low number or having to wait on long lines. Instead, the lottery system is a way of randomly picking the order and changes each month.
How it works:

  • 11 a.m. to 12 noon you can pre-register in the gym for the lottery. We will put your name on a piece of paper and place it in a container.
  • At 12 noon, the lottery closes, and a Pantry volunteer will start randomly picking the names (without seeing them) out of the container. If your name is pulled out first, you will get #1 and so on.
  • At 1 p.m. in the downstairs hallway we will begin calling numbers. Make sure to have your number ready.
  • Anyone who arrives after 12 noon will register in the gym and receive the next available number.

Why are we doing this?
We want to make sure that our Pantry is fair and can be accessed by everyone. The lottery system helps make sure that all Pantry clients get an equal chance to shop, even if they can’t always get here first because of their transportation, work schedule or other circumstances. We restock our tables while the Pantry is open so the people who have later numbers also have access to similar items.

Thank you for your understanding and patience!
*** The Gym will be open at 10 a.m. for clients to wait, socialize or use the internet. ***
